What is Urban Farming?
Urban Farming is about working and maintaining a designated area of land (the school allotment). It will involve you getting your hands dirty by growing and keeping your own plants and vegetables. You will also experience working with animals such as bees to produce honey and chickens for their eggs.
What will you do on the course?You will...
* experience a mixed programme of classroom lessons, sports and practical activities * work with others on different activities and challenges * work with others to achieve goals and improve problem solving skills * improve your own learning and performance * plan and carry out a piece of research * communicate through discussion * plan and give an oral presentation * work towards gaining your St. Johns Young First Aider certificate How will you be assessed?There is no formal exam in Urban Farming but you must able to:
* show you can perform the skills in each area covered * present a portfolio of evidence containing your reflections and experience * demonstrate evidence in the form of written and photographic records * demonstrate skills to be assessed internally by staff and externally by the ASDAN exam board. |
Where can Urban Farming take you?
* The ASDAN Qualifications are recognised by a variety of schools, colleges and employers
* Level 1 can give you an equivalent to 2 GCSE's Grade D, whilst Level 2 can give you an equivalent to 2 GCSE's Grade B
* Your portfolio (folder) of work can be used to support your CV applications to employers and colleges
* If you achieve Level 1 in KS4 you could progess onto Level 2 as part of your KS5 choices
* If Level 2 is achieved it would support your application to any Level 3 courses.
