What is CoPE?
CoPE stands for Certificate of Personal Effectiveness. The course consists of a mix of written and practical activities. Students who take this course will be lively and willing to take on new challenges to improve their own learning.
What will you do on the course?You will...
* experience a mixed programme of classroom lessons, sports and practical activties * work with others on different activities and challenges * work with others to achieve goals and improve problem solving skills * improve your own learning and performance * plan and carry out pieces of research * communicate through discussion * plan and give oral presentations * work towards gaining your St. Johns Young First Aider certificate How will you be assessed?There is no formal exam in CoPE but you must able to:
* show that you can perform skills in each of the areas covered * present a portfolio of evidence that contains your reflections and experiences * demonstrate evidence in the form of written and photographic records * demonstrate skills to be assessed internally by staff and externally by the ASDAN exam board |
Where can CoPE take you?
* The ASDAN Qualifications are recognised by a variety of schools, colleges and employers
* Level 1 can give you an equivalent to a GCSE Grade D, whilst Level 2 can give you an equivalent to a GCSE Grade B
* Your portfolio (folder) of work can be used to support your CV applications to employers and colleges
* CoPE will support your application for a range of Post-16 Level 3 courses if an A*-C Grade is achieved, or a Level 2 course if a B Grade is achieved
* Level 1 can give you an equivalent to a GCSE Grade D, whilst Level 2 can give you an equivalent to a GCSE Grade B

Things Thomas Tallis are doing in CoPE
Every lesson in CoPE varies depending on the Key Skill you are working towards. You will find your lessons full of different projects and activities. Some of the things we have done so far include making a Superhero film trailer, working to achieve a St. John's Young First Aider Certificate, a trip to learn how to play curling on ice, basic BSL (British Sign Language) Skills, filming a documentary and getting creative making 3D decorations.
